OG’s Beach Bungalow at Marari is a new gem, ideal for couples who want to capture Kerala’s limited beachline. Situated just 10 meters away from the beach, this resort has panoramic views of the ocean the bedrooms.

Take your meals on a verandah 10m from the gentle waves lapping onto a near – deserted golden beach. Laze on hammocks strung between coconut palms. Take off on a house bicycle along the beach, through the local fishing villages and make a passing acquaintance with friendly locals. Nothing could be further from a ‘Package holiday’.

Life among the beach communities has not changed much in a hundred years. Enjoy watching the daily routine of men going out on their fishing boats and returning in the late afternoon with their catch. You can be certain of a supremely fresh, delicious evening meal. Staff are happy to provide a 24hr room service and will prepare a picnic should you wish to take off for a day’s exploration.

There is a fully equipped, modern kitchen for your use. Should you prefer, staff, including a butler/ chef, will prepare delicious meals for you. Discuss your tastes with him and he will shop for the best ingredients, cook them for you and serve them to you on the delightful dining verandah overlooking the sea. At night the whole bungalow and its surroundings is prettily lit up, throwing mysterious shadows through the trees.

This region of Kerala is remarkable for the gentle beauty of its countryside. The inland waterways are best explored by Rice Boat to enjoy the scenes of everyday life – villages, churches, school children being ferried from one bank to another and the water bus transporting villagers to work and shop. It’s not quite Venice without the smells, but when did you see kingfishers and sea eagles in Venice?

This is a perfect location to use as a base for local visits, enjoy the sea and water sports or simply crash out on the beach and sunbathe.

Sixty kilometers South of Cochin, Mararikulam is 12 kms from Alleppey. By Road From the Cochin International Airport it is around 80 kms delightful ride by road to Maraikulam. From the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport it is a 187 Km approximately 3.30 hours ride by road By Rail From Cochin, any south bound train via the Alappuzha route stops at Mararikulam station, which is twenty minute drive from OG’s Bungalow. Alight at Alappuzha Station or at Mararikulam station. On prior appointment tourists will be picked up from either the Railway Station or Bus Station in either of the places.

Marari Beach Resort

Marari Beach sprawls across 55 acres of lawns, far-flung lotus ponds and whispering coconut groves, all threaded through with stone- flagged pathways. A windbreak of palms runs the length of the property, a protective cover that reduces even the gustiest sea winds to mere caresses. And beyond is a milk-and-azure ocean, fringed by a beach more ochre than yellow, a sand-meets-sea combination you’re not likely to find anywhere else.

Modelled on the fishermens’ dwellings of Mararikulam, your accommodations are a fine balance between traditional form and modern function. The roof is palm thatch, but we’ve added a concrete base that keeps the air-conditioning in and the odd insect out. Bathrooms too, combine modern fixtures with the traditional Kerala open-roofed style. And the little taps outside each cottage are another local touch. The fisher folk use them to clean the sand off their feet, and you can do likewise. Barefoot is a great way to be at Marari Beach, even indoors!

Cottages like the one we’ve just described form the standard accommodation , but if you favour more private luxuries, maybe you’d like to pick one of our pool villa cottages, which are suite-style and have a secluded walled courtyard with a private pool all your own.
