About Us:

Did we say we’ll make Periyar simple? That’s what we’ve done, from the ground up.
We took 10 of the most spacious rooms around and filled them with all the comforts of home.

Then, we took it all and placed it in a simple stone and exposed brick structure that uses natural materials everywhere.
No two rooms at The Wildernest are the same.

GETTING THERE:

Air : Kochi (Cochin) at 200 kms or Madurai in Tamil Nadu at 140 kms are the nearest airports from Periyar.

Rail : Kottayam at 114 kms is the nearest railhead from Periyar.

Road : Kumily, the nearest town from Periyar is well served by both state and private buses from Kottayam, Ernakulam and Madurai in Tamil Nadu.

When you get off the Kumily main road and turn off from the heart of the town onto the short road leading to the sanctuary, keep your eyes on your left. You’ll be there in a minute if you’re driving, and in 5 if you’re walking. You can’t miss it.

Yoga
Yoga is a group of ancient spiritual practices originating in India .Yoga has both physical and spiritual aspects to it , with many different interpretations being handed down from original 5000-year-old Vedas manuscripts. It developed as a way to merge dualities such as the mind and body, strength and flexibility – using the physical body to get in touch with other non-physical aspects.

Yoga and meditation classes can be arranged on request.

Acticities:

The programme is offered between 7.00 am. and 10.30 am. and between 2.00 pm. and 3.00 pm. and lasts for about 3 hours. A maximum of 5 persons can go for trekking at a time along each nature trail, accompanied by a trained tribal guide. The Nature walk is the right programme to feel nature, hear her whispers and smell her flowers.

Different nature trails traversing diverse habitats form the trekking routes, generally 4 to 5 km. in length. This is an interpretive programme offering excellent opportunity to watch birds, butterflies and other wildlife. The trails often pass through evergreen and moist deciduous forests interspersed with marshy grasslands.

Visiting the Periyar tiger reserve and wild-life Sanctuary:

Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary is actually bounded by the periyar lake. The sanctuary or the Periyar Tiger Reserve is ostentatious with the presence of untamed wild animals and lot of water birds. Its is the largest and protected areas of Kerala(777 sq. Km.). Periyar Tiger reserve contains very rare and threatened species of flora and fauna.

Boating in the Periyar Lake:

Boating in the lake is conducted by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation and Kerala Forest Department. Tourists get a chance for seeing the wild animals along the fringes of the lake

Trekking ( 3 hours – whole day ):

In this programme, a group of tourists go to explore the forest and nature on foot under the guidance of trained tribal guides. Its provides an excellent opportunity to see wild flora and fauna.

Night Jungle Patrol and Border Hiking:

This is a patrolling programme is the fringe areas of the forests for the tourists with the protection and guidance of the armed forest guards.This programme is part of the regular night patrolling in the fringe eco-development zones of the tiger reserve. The trekking could be at any time between 7 pm and 4 am and could be taken by persons having proper physical and mental fitness to trek the wilderness at night.
